Opportunities for School Leavers (16-18 year olds)

Who is it for?

Driving Ambitions is a 15 week long programme for young people living in Sheffield and focuses on 16 to 18 yr olds, who are Not in Education, Employment and Training (NEET). Driving Ambitions is funded by the LSC and Sheffield City Council under the Future: Proof Framework.

What is on offer?

We provide training, work experience, practical advice and support.
We will help with:

  • Confidence building and motivation
  • Developing or improving your CV, Completing job application forms
  • Developing interview skills, Presenting and selling yourself
  • Finding jobs and networking
  • Health and Safety in the workplace
  • Basic Manual Handling
  • A better understanding of your own skills and abilities.
  • Help with your numeracy & Literacy
  • Up to 10 Free Driving Lessons (these are conditional)
  • 5 Day Fork Lift Truck Training with Certificate (Conditional).
  • On the job work experience / Work Placement.
  • Free Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Free Lunch and Travel while on the programme.

Opportunities for School Leavers (14-16 year olds)

The Vocational Skills Programme for 14-16 year olds includes:

  • Basic Motor Vehicles Skills & Car Care: Get to grips with a car, learn general care and maintenance.
  • Manual Handling and Health & Safety: Gain valuable knowledge of the correct techniques needed to work safely in the workplace.
  • Creative Arts: Learn to dance, act and play like the stars with courses in dance, drama, guitar and piano.
  • Beauty Therapy: Work Experience at hair and beauty salons, learning catwalk beauty techniques.
  • Pallet Truck Training: Gain experience with pallet trucks in a warehouse environment.

As well as these courses, we would also provide basic skills (Numeracy and Literacy) and Employability under Ready Steady Work.

This programme is aimed at young people who may go on to underachieve at school or are on track to achieve very little. The programme is also listed in the 2010-2011 VSP Directory which can be found on the Sheffield City Council website.

We are able to deliver the programme at your school or any of our 3 sites in Sheffield (the main site is at Denby Street).

We have qualified youth workers who are at our disposal and we also have qualified IAG workers (up to level 4) who can give careers advice and progress the learners onto other courses including apprenticeships and college.
